In case of an accident or emergency, it is comforting to note that Barbados' medical community is extensive and very highly trained.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH)is the island's cheif medical facility. This hospital is equiped with sophisticated equipment to handle a range of medical procedures. However, overseas health insurance plans and credit cards are not accepted.

*In the case of a serious medical emergency or accident in Barbados- Dial telephone number 511 for the ambulance service at the QEH.

You also have the option to receive health care from the privately operated Bayview Hospital. Which accepts some insurance plans, find out which ones they recognise before hand.

Outside of these two hospitals, plenty polytechnics provide community care and numerous private physicians specialising in traditional and alternative medicine can provide you with treatment.

Established pharmacies like Knight's Pharmacy and Collins Pharmacy carry a range of prescription and non prescription medication. So you can have your prescriptions filled, if not it is always good to see a local physician for further recommendation.
