… Barbados is an island paradise! I am sure you have heard that many times… read that many times… And I am not being biased. It’s true.
This Caribbean island rests in the western Atlantic Ocean, just east to the waters of the Caribbean sea.
This remote location is only one attractive characteristic, but a tremendous one at best- all of its exotic appeal is based on its eccentric position.
At latiute 13° North and 59° West- the island being thirteen degrees off of the equator-well, makes the sun hot!
The bright, sunny, and warm climate though, generally keeps you upbeat, and also, reflects the personable traits of many of the approximated 270,000 Barbadians living on the island (which is 166 square miles in size).
This tropical atmosphere, is constantly served by trade winds off of the Atlantic ocean keeping the temperature mild. Making the perfect sunny holiday destination.
The rainy season is from June to October and the island is located so far to the east of the other Caribbean islands that it is excluded from the principle hurricane belt and hurricanes are few and far between.
Composed mainly of limestone coral, you can find the most beautiful white sandy beaches, coves and some of the cleanest drinking water in the world- something the island is said to have in common with the water in Japan.
It also gives way to wonderful water activities and attractions.
Largely a flat landscape, with the highest peak- Mount Hillaby, rising 1,100 feet above sea level.
Besides the beach you can find immense natural features in its interiors. Giving nature lovers a treat.
Naturally, visually appealing- on the west coast, calmer waters and well placed tropical shrubery adorne – A vibrant and exclusive lifestyle with hints of traditional Barbados island life.
The east coast and to the north contrast with dramtic landscapes, hills and cliffs- that protect a quiet way of life- All of which is simply beautiful.
Hidden with in this simple, natural beauty there are so many fantastic reasons to travel to Bim, but we won't be the ones to divulge this or even what you might like about the island.
I was able to chat with some visitors who were certainly having a good time.
Outside of nature's gifts. There is fantastic duty free shopping, good nighlife, sporting and entertainment events.
The island is a tax haven for offshore business. Invests heavily in education and offers a highly skilled population with over 95% literacy rate.
It is also a prime locale for real estate investment, seen from booming construction of seaside condominums/villas and commercial buildings.
Fun tid bits – Interesting facts about Barbados
The island is also referred to as “Little England”, the British colloquial nickname Bimshire and sometimes Bim. Many also call it the gem of the Caribbean sea.
Bim and Japan, have the highest per capita rate of centenarians worldwide.
Singer Nina Simone, during her stay on the island in the 1970s, had an affair with a Prime Minister of Barbados. She describes the affair in her autobiography “I Put a Spell on You” (1992) and dedicated a song to him on A Single Woman (1993).
