Ecolodge Tropical Forest Retreat.
Eco-friendly, Barbados Accommodation...
A holiday at Ecolodge Tropical Forest Retreat is one you’ll never forget!
It was excitement beyond control when we found out we would be able to stay with Grahame and Andrea at Ecolodge, their home and exotic tropical forest retreat in Barbados.
The only thing that made this good news painful was the two days between us and our Ecolodge vacation.
Two whole days!
48 hours... to me, in this situation, seemed like forever, but, staying at Ecolodge was fantastic!
Sophisticatedly Safari
The eco-efficient home of Barbados’ notoriously environmentally friendly couple, now warmly invites visitors to stay in Barbados in a truly eco-forward, and off-the-beaten-track setting on the island’s east coast.
One well surrounded by natural resources – picturesque, serene, and unforgettable.
The ‘country’ location of Ecolodge Tropical Forest Retreat in St.Joseph, is close to de Heart of Barbados (the parishes of St.Thomas and St.Andrew), where in lies many of Barbados’ natural tourist attractions and outdoor activities.
These include, but are not limited to Harrison’s Cave, Aerial Trek- Zip Lining, Welchman Hall Gully- Hike, Andromeda Gardens, Flower Forest and plenty more!
Making it the perfect green getaway location in Barbados.
From Ecolodge Tropical Forest Retreat, it is only a 1 1/2 mile hike in to the neighbouring village of Bathsheba, where beach side restaurants, small fishing communities, Barbados’ most rugged landscapes, untouched beaches and ‘surfer’ waves make for an unbeatable, authentic taste of Barbadian life.
This accommodation in Barbados is the epitome of tropical island living- intimate, exotic and tastefully safari.
Guests are greeted by hosts, Grahame and Andrea and their very social dogs, Sheba, Lambo, Nubo and Kelly, all with distinct but adorable personalities and very well behaved.
Then the biggest smile comes from the 270 degree panoramic view- a portrait of lush scenery and views of the Atlantic Ocean embracing the entire inn.
A picture that makes every morning at breakfast a special one and every night a dreamer’s night, with nothing but a few candles and the stars.
The open plan living and dining room with large quarter panel doorways open up to the outdoors involving the magnitude of this remote landscape in your stay in every way.
In Barbados, at this tropical forest retreat there is an incredible feeling of extreme freedom and yet extreme privacy that is quite romantic when dusk sets in. Nature’s way of saying you’re extremely special.
Modest and Intimate- Tropically lauded Guest Rooms
There are two tropically themed guest rooms you can choose from, the Marula room and the Fig Tree room, both fairly small, modestly and eclectically furnished, making excellent use of space and creating very comfortable accommodation.
Equally inviting as the rest of the ambiance at Ecolodge, with evidence of Andrea’s love of the outdoors, the flare of each achieved by the use of natural materials, a combination of bamboo, silks and my favourite piece- animal print drums, which provide eccentric bedside vanity stools.
Both rooms are accented with softly lit candles and a lamp shade should you need additional light.
The Marula room, named after the South African fruit is the larger of the two, it hosts a queen size bed, a Bamboo shaded clothing closet and a reasonable amount of added storage.
It has views of the back garden which clears out to a forest green, forest (no pun intended), where early in the morning and throughout the day you can watch monkeys have their way in and amongst the trees.
The Fig Tree room inspired by the Bearded Fig Tree outside of the room is just as comfortable as the Marula room but smaller, with all of the same amenities, a little less storage but more than adequate.
Between the two rooms there is accommodation for approximately four people and a shared bathroom.
I stayed in the Marula room, and I hadn’t slept this peaceful for sometime- for this I think the bed is worth a mention- the mattress, firm and comfortable- good for the back, covered with crisp white linens.
The room, very clean, (I’ve stayed in some hotels that are supposedly four star quality and haven’t had the level of cleanliness provided at Ecolodge), combined with the fact that there is absolutely no noise, well not the man-made kind, only the rhythm of the crickets and tree frogs can be heard in the distance, sounds that caress you off to sleep at night.
At the same time, thought it was one of my best rests to date, it was also my most anxious, I was eager to wake up in the morning – why? Well let’s re-track to the night before.
The evening before... Arriving at Ecolodge Tropical Forest Retreat was a culmination of good company, Grahame and Andrea, their good friend Liz was over, and when on the island their neighbour Bill, from Eco Cottage may pop in from time to time.
Liz’s sewing skills went in to most of the elegantly draped fabrics adorning the guests rooms and the covers of the seating, which was a vision of Andrea’s swiftly brought to fruition in a matter of weeks, and Bill sorted out the electric part of the set up.
A glass of good wine and casual conversation- storytelling and a few good laughs had over dinner was good fun but it was Andrea’s cooking that took centre stage, dinner was an exquisite gourmet menu that was simply sumptuous, it will spoil you rotten, you’ll never forget it –
Dinner at Ecolodge Tropical Forest Retreat in Barbados
Eggplant and Breadfruit parmigiana – The best tasting parmigiana ever! Topped with fresh parmigiano, a dish with a delicate melt-in –the mouth texture and quite filling.
This was accompanied by a lightly dressed green salad and a mouthwatering veggie burger and breadfruit casserole.
Dessert- Chocolate covered profitto rolls and Amarula( natural, South African cream liqueur- balanced on the palate, with nose of chocolate and short finish).
At Ecolodge Topical Forest Retreat, dinner is available to all guests upon request and orders for dinner can be made by 8:00 am the latest, on the day you prefer to eat in.
So after a dinner like that, I just couldn’t wait to wake up in the morning for breakfast! Which was another gourmet treat.
Breakfast at Ecolodge Tropical Forest Retreat in Barbados
Assorted cold cheeses , warm croissants, fresh fruit, prosciutto, tea, coffee, fruit juice and for me the remaining chocolate covered profitto rolls, it’s okay to be spoiled once in a while:)
The Ecolodge Tropical Forest Retreat offers an honesty bar for all guests, help yourselves to which ever beverage you wish – and just write down whatever you had for the day. The honesty bar drinks menu includes: local beer, local rum, red and white wine, soft drinks, tea, and coffee.
