Early Morning Pick up

The day of the Island Safari Barbados tour all we did was wake up and relax! We showered in between but relaxed.

Our guide for the day was Jordan, a cool guy! He’ll crack you up and crack the day wide open with a few jokes. Good ones too!

We joined other companions already on board.

All set, buckle up and we were on our way to meet the rest of the Land Rover fleet - Simba, Papa Smurf, Bugs Bunny, Elmo, Dino, Sylvester , Scooby-Doo and other cartoon Island Safari Land Rovers at the first stop of the day - historic … Gun Hill .

On Tour

Here the tour guides introduce you to a huge lion… a great photo spot.

In a few minutes you’re off the road!

On a rainy day this may be the complimentary mud facial you’ve been waiting for.

It’s a bumpy ride through the bush , picture cartoon characters scurrying one after the other.

Now picture Land Rovers doing this, you know, moving from side to side, not going forwards or backwards but the wheels are spinning and eventually you take off! This was great! All caps FUN!

Yup there’s a load of 4x4 action thrown in the Island Safari Barbados tour, more or less depending on how you’re feeling.

One after the other the Land Rovers go… into the jungle

But hang on, it’s a narrow track and someone has to go first. Garfield gets teased : “ Ladies first.”

Astonishing plant life, wild life, what’s here and what’s not … it’s just great stuff! Snap!

Fovourite sightings? This is a difficult one, there are so many , for now I choose this coconut tree!

Island Shopping ! At this stop on a beautiful east coast beach you can buy Barbados art, hand made jewelry, batik wraps, take a walk, ( no swimming on this coast, please its dangerous!) and drink coconut water.

Further up the east coast the tour takes a break, choose soft drinks or jungle juice (also known as rum punch) from the open bar and have light snacks.

If you’ve been a little tense on the ride this far, double up on the Jungle Juice to loosen up... I beg ya.

…… off the road, through a track, up and down a hill , Next Stop!

This spot you’ll never find on your own, maybe if you go in and out of every bush on the island, you’ll also need a Land Rover and a very skilled driver, like the Island Safari Barbados tour guides.

The view from this cliff is one you won’t see otherwise, from north to south of the east. It’s fantastic!

At this point, the Island Safari guides request all jumpers to stay far away. And I quote: “ this view is only for the mentally and emotionally stable.”

Off you go!…. Across grasslands and straight to the edge, to beautiful cliff- side views of the Atlantic Ocean, smell that fresh salt air...

The minute it gets too quiet, there isn’t a moment before you wonder.

There they are, sitting right at the edge, looking down, no need for anyone of them to get out of the Land Rover at this point. If you know what I mean.

After thinking life in Barbados is good!

It get’s tastier, we were served a scrumptious Bajan Buffet lunch … by a west coast beach. So don’t forget to bring your beach wear, you can finally go for a swim!

( sorry I didn't get pictures of our meal, I instantly dived in eating, but it looked and tasted great!) .

This tour literally has it all!

It’s an amazing way to get up close to unusual areas and unique views of Barbados.

In a day you would have had a blast!

The man behind the ride.

This all started when Rlaph White took the concept of taking his friends and family to have fun and see the island, bringing along a few drinks and snacks. “I was in deep sea fishing before and didn’t know how to drive a land rover , but going for a drive was always a good time.”

Ralph started Island Safari Barbados in 1996 with the same theme where people on tour could easily interact with the driver in an open and entertaining way, like family.

Speaking of those crazy drivers, how did they learn to drive like that?

“It’s what the tour is based on, the out doors and excitement of being on the back of a 4x4. Periodically, someone from Land Rover affiliated with the G4 run comes down to show the drivers how to drive, what to do in remote and other locations etc. it’s definitely training.”

“ In the beginning I did all of the driving, I do miss it, but the important thing is that clients continue to have a good time, they send us post cards and pictures from their tour and our repeat clients even ask for the driver they had last time.”
