Williams Legacy ... A Collector's Wish of Functional Wood Treasures

We found Williams Legacy while searching for the perfect 'just because gift'!

They definitely had it!

For that special gift, souvenir, decorative piece or brilliant collectors items, look no further!

The captivating collections created by Williams Legacy are all handmade using wood - including: locally grown West Indian Mahogany , Teak and Red Cedar.

These woods are certified to last more that 50 years. And blend perfectly with interiors of any type.

These Barbados artists themes are centered around animals and abstract pieces, but Williams Legacy can make anything you like.

So by now, you are perhaps wondering... exactly what make up these collections ?

Trinket boxes, home furnishings, wall hangings and more!

There are so many within each theme, but here are some of my favourite citings of this Barbados art.

Favourite cute, and fun-loving collections :

'Mini Me' Collection - These pieces are miniature.

With this line the artist ensures that every part of the wood is used in every unique way.

Corazon (Heart) Collection - Corazon is the Spanish word for heart.

" This collection is about the hidden agendas or matters of the heart within each of us.

Sometimes shown by the things we do ( good or bad) , and can be controlled by the one we love most."

They are so cute!

Perfect as gift set, or token, perhaps boxing that wedding cake in a stylish and unique way that will 'awe' your guests...

Half Moon Collection - A very gracious collection to have around!

The pieces are carved out of Mahogany to resemble a half moon, the rings , variation in colour and texture of the mahogany are displayed. Naturally beautiful!

Animals are a favourite theme of the Artist especially the famous frog Kermit.

The Kermit Collection - (Isn't 'he' smiley!).

This collection brings a smile to your space or face.

The famous frog Kermit is the artists' favourite frog and was the inspiration for the carvings made on this line.

Jenouk (Elephant) Collection - This was inspire by the Australian elephant - The seventh largest elephant in the world (it died a few years ago).

The elephant was so large that one can stand underneath it. This piece is just the cutest!

Favourite abstract and elegant collections:

Musceska Box Collection - These show the beautiful designs and colour variations between the sapwood and the heart wood.

The idea for these boxes came to the artist from the Russian Dolls that are comprised of many boxes and compartments.

Tesoro (Treasure) Collection - These treasure boxes depict the proverb One man's junk is another man's treasure.

'So don't judge a piece of wood by it's bark.'

Unless you are Amander, this artist looks at the wood and sees the potential of a collection.

It has a very antique feel.

Hide and Seek Collection - Reminds you of the child hood game?

It's just as much fun to look at. Do and undo.

However, there is nothing childlike about the detail that goes into carving each piece of mazes and puzzles.

This is definitely a must-have collectors' item!

Classical Victorian Collection - "This piece depicts the victory that is gained through Christ Jesus which we all can access freely."

It stands tall, strong and graceful. I just loved it!

Classical Tower Collection - These signifying eminence, stand alone but mighty and confident. Great for making a statement in any room.

Guy -Barbados Trinket Box - The artisan her self being Guyanese and growing up Barbados is a true reflection of the blend of the two cultures.

This trinket box also symbolises the artisan's outlook of these two Caribbean islands functioning together.

Besides these boxes, You can find amazing figurines and wall-hangings.

It's so exciting to see so many different pieces available in each collection.

All are handcrafted pieces and are one-of-a-kind limited editions inspired by the artists.

...It gets better! The items of each collection are cured to guarantee protection against insects and elements of the weather.

And, how many precious trees have seen their wits end for the creations of Williams Legacy ?

Good news for you !... Only materials and trimmings from pruning and fallen trees are used in the elaboration of this creative craft!

These are only a sample of a whole host of collections Williams Legacy creates.

Each collection promises to be as unique, elegant and as fascinating as the next.

If only you can get this intricate detail and elegance in the design of your home! Or Office? Done!

This business also specializes in joinery and cabinetry for kitchens, bedrooms and offices.

Giving the added convenience of cohesive decor for any space.

Amander Williams-Clarke and Husband Cedric Clarke are the talent behind the innovative wood items produced by Williams Legacy.

Amander's favourite theme is Animals as seen with here Kermit and Jenouk collection and in many of the figurines.

While the larger items for the home are Cedric's Forte.

When asked where the vision for this art comes from, Amander replied, " It is God sent.

When I see a piece of wood the pattern just comes to me and I know exactly what it wants to be. The wood tells us what it wants and how it should look."

What started out as Williams Legacy began several years ago as as family business in Guyana.

Owned by Amanders' Grandfather, Nathaniel Williams and his wife. At that time simple drawings, embroidery, basketry and wooden beads were its signature items.

It was then passed to their son, Amander's father, Kenrick Williams and his wife- Patricia Yarde, who moved to Barbados in 1982 with their daughters and continued the business.

Growing up, Amander was always good with her hands, she confessed, "art and craft was her 'A' game at school, the other subjects were... they just were."

While producing embroidery work at school that awed her teachers . The local media was also a fan of Amender's handmade creations during her teens.

Amander didn't work with her father at all during her school years but always had an eye on his work.

Can you imagine what a pleasant shock (short of a heart-attack) it was to her father when Amander successfully carved her first wooden box without practice?

A source of renewed hope as her sisters chose other professions.

In 2005 Williams Legacy was passed to Amander and Cedric. It was a perfect match when Amander met Cedric, also from Guyana worked with wood- doing cabinetry and his carving talent was undeniable.

Needless to say that was not the first attraction. Amander tells us that she wasn't looking when she met Cedric. She was reading Seven Secrets Women Want to Know by P.B Wilson. And he was a pleasant surprise!

However, Cedric fit seamlessly into the family business and Williams Legacy expanded it's portfolio of products to include Kitchen cupboards, wardrobes, chest of draws, counter tops- wood or granite etc.

Plant stands, wooden utensils and just about anything that can be made from wood is provided by the business

The pair operate under the motto: 'Anything with wood - We could! '

This team work with clients to produce custom made designs to suite their needs, no matter what they may be or the size.

Their two sons are gearing up to take the baton of Williams Legacy and run with it.

Two year old son Emanuel ogles the creations of his parents, clearly he has excellent taste!

While nine year old Lathaniel with a keen eye and steady hands helps with sanding and painting some work.

It was good fun talking with Amander and Cedric and you'll enjoy meeting these Barbados artists as much as you'll enjoy their Barbados wood art and home furnishings.

Visit Amander and Cedric Williams at their home-based operation where you can try making pieces inspired by you, they'll show you what to do. If you are unable to make it to St. George...

You can find the creations of Williams Legacy at key local festivals, including:
